Standing Ovation for Johnny Cowling

An audience of over one hundred and seventy people gave Johnny Cowling a standing ovation at the end of his Elvis Gospel Evening in St Mabyn Church on Sunday 22 June.
Johnny has earned his place as Cornwall’s favourite entertainer with his engaging wit, charm, charisma and outstanding talent. He has a unique gift of making people feel happy and with a programme that included an impromptu rendition of ‘Crying in the Chapel’ and a finale performance of ‘An American Trilogy, everyone went home happy. During the course of the evening the audience were up on their feet, clapping, singing, swaying and just having a great time. Almost as much exercise as an hour in the gym but more fun! Refreshments during the interval were kindly made and served by The Friends of St Mabyn Church.
The Elvis Gospel Evening was just one of the concerts organised by St Mabyn Church Restoration Appeal committee as part of their fund-raising initiative for Phase II of the roof restoration. Further concerts include Jazz on the Green on Friday 18 July at 6.30pm (bring a picnic – in church if wet) and the Churchtown Unity Jazz Band on Sunday 21 September.
