ST MABYN GARDEN CLUB
Members of St Mabyn Garden Club were entertained at their November meeting by Lorraine Turnbull who gave a very interesting and informative talk with slides on growing apple and pear trees. Lorraine advised that bare rooted young trees are the best to buy as pot-grown ones are inclined to have roots that have twisted around each other in the pot and also become dried out.
Lorraine is a fan of Cornish apples, and there are many varieties that come from Cornwall. She was also very impressed by the large and unblemished pear that our chairman John Lobb had picked from his garden to show us. After a question and answer session tea and biscuits were served.
Don't forget our Christmas Party is 7.15pm December 5th (a week earlier than our normal meetings) at he Village Hall. Moor Harmony will be entertaining us and also John's Quiz which we all look forward to. Please bring a plate of savoury of sweet food.
Just a reminder, our New Year meeting is Wednesday 9th January at 7.30 in the Village Hall. Our speaker will be Henry Kendall on 'Bees and Honey'.
