CELEBRATION OF LOVE, MARRIAGE AND COMMITMENT
To mark the forthcoming retirement of Reverend Margaret Millson, priest in charge of the joint beneficiary of St Mabyn, St Tudy and Michaelstow, a three-day Celebration of Love, Marriage and Commitment will take place in St Mabyn Church on 20th, 21st and 22nd August. During all three days, between 10.30-5pm, there will be an Exhibition of Wedding Finery in the church, including bride and bridesmaids' dresses, pageboy outfits, wedding hats, photographs etc. Refreshments will also be available.
On the evening of Friday 20th at 6pm, a BBQ with musical entertainment will be held in the school playground. Everyone will be very welcome, but please bring your own drinks.
On Saturday 21st at 2.30pm, a procession will leave the church with a 'young couple' led by Tony, St Mabyn's very own multi-talented village crier in full regalia, as well as Mark with his accordion. The procession will circuit St Mabyn via Wadebridge Road, Watergate Lane and Station Road. A mock wedding in the church will follow, which will include a broom jumping ceremony, the broom having been beautifully decorated with ribbons and flowers. Tony will also lead a singsong after the mock wedding. Everyone is welcome to join the procession, especially little girls in pretty dresses who would like to be bridesmaids. Handsome pageboys are also welcome, as well as mums, dads and all the family.
As this event promises to be a lot of fun for everyone, it is very much hoped that as many folk as possible will turn out (with their cameras) for both the procession and the following celebrations in the church.
On the evening of Saturday 21st at 7.30pm, The Wadebridge Male Voice Choir, which was formed in 1920 and is one of the oldest choirs in Cornwall, will entertain, in the Church. The repertoire of the choir is varied and includes many classical and popular pieces, as well as spirituals and sacred items. Admission is a very modest £4. All other Celebration events, including the BBQ, are voluntary donations only.
The Celebration ends on Sunday 22nd at 6.30pm with Songs of Praise, accompanied by the Deanery Choir. Couples who wish to do so will be invited to re-affirm their wedding vows. The evening will end with cake and wine. For further information please telephone 01208 841607.
