St Mabyn garden club

The well known Bodmin historian Peter Davies  gave a very interesting talk and slide show about Bodmin moor for our November meeting.  Members were shown aerial views of the moor and it was fascinating to see  Bodmin moor from from a different perspective other than from the ground.
December was for our christmas party.  The hall had been beautifully decorated by the village hall committee and this was commented upon by members of the garden club.  As usual members had generously provided a wide choice of tasty refreshments.  Hilda, a popular member of the club had come up trumps again this year with her delicious home made christmas cake.
Our guest entertainer was Hilary Keam from Probus, who with her husband braved the cold and icy roads  to get to us.   If I say  a true Cornish Pam Ayres I would not be over stating Hilary Keam’s talent.   Though the weather was cold and unfriendly outside inside the hall was warmth and laughter.  During the evening we found out that Mr and Mrs Keam were expecting a phone call from their son as his wife was being whisked off to Truro as baby was on the way.  Hilary very kindly rang me the next day to say that they were now proud grandparents of a little baby girl.  As you can imagine I spread the news as members of the garden club had been waiting on tenter hooks to hear that all had gone well!
Our chairman John Lobb produced his annual garden quiz.  Gosh, it was hard, but not hard enough for winners Molly and George Dyke who saw through John’s tricky questions.  Winner of the decorated mug table display was Anne Mcdermott.
Our next meeting is to be held on wednesday 9 February at 7.30pm in St Mabyn village hall.  our speaker Robin Julian will be talking  about trellises and garden structures.
Please contact me, Angela Bunney 01208 841511 for more details.  Membership is still only £5 annually and in May and September coach trips are organised.
