St Mabyn Garden Club

Following a lively AGM on 9th April, when John Lobb (Chairman ) and Venning Davey (President) reviewed  the 2013 – 2014 programme of visits and speakers,  and elections were held for Officers and Committee, the members enjoyed an introductory talk by Tom Bray on the Haywood Cider Farm in St Mabyn. The Club plan to visit the farm on 10th September and it was most enjoyable to have (literally) a “taster” of things to come! A local business venture Tom is rightly very proud of, he talked enthusiastically about his progress so far. His knowledge of apple trees and cider brewing – initially a hobby he has turned into a business – is extensive and still growing.

The Chairman also extended an open invitation to anyone keen on gardening to join the 30 odd club members going by coach to Marwood Hill Gardens near Barnstable on Wed 21st May for the annual all day outing. Please ring Greta on 01208 841160 for details.
At the meeting close John Lobb reminded the members of the next speaker spot on 14th May – Trevor Wiltshire on  ‘Flowers of Crete’. Usual  time and venue – 7.30 in the village hall. Annual membership subscription of £7.00 will also be due then and details of the programme for the next season will be available.
Happy gardening!
