St Mabyn Village Hall

GREAT NEWS!
Venning Davey Chairman of the Village Hall Committee has led the way to achieving a grant for the Hall. It comes from the "Awards for All", from the small grants fund (under £10k) and the Lottery is granting £4,500 and NCDC £1500. Bodmin Flooring Centre will be laying the super new oak floor during February half-term. A reminder to all, as a result of Venning's interest in our super Village hall, he has managed to get the finances for the roof, the windows and the new kitchen etc. Venning is retiring from the Hall Committee next June/July 2007, and his heart's desire is to have additional new members on the Committee to ensure continued interest in our Village Hall.
In the New Year there will be a big drive to make further use of this facility. Do you have a talent, which you might like to share with others? Keep fit classes, yoga for the over 50s, whist/bridge classes, foreign language classes e.g. Spanish & French to link in with Wadebridge's twin town in Brittany. There could be Craft classes, an Art group and maybe Basic Computer classes?

Church Restoration Appeal

CHRISTMAS PARTY. It may seem a while ago now, but a very enjoyable evening was had by all who attended the annual Christmas festivities at the home of John and Anthea Lobb. The warm welcome, flow of drinks and sumptuous savoury supper were heartily devoured in an atmosphere of true Christmas spirit. John's legendary quiz this time focused on finding the missing links with keen participants having to guess the correct word to link to other familiar groups of words. With the appropriate prize of a jar of Anthea's delicious jam, guests were also invited to guess the number of buttons in a jar (painst4ingly counted in advance by John). Musical entertainment was provided by a school chum of John's – Mark Hawken, who is well known for his entertaining in support of many charity events. Mark, together with his accordion, got one and all to join in a good ol' sing song to round off a truly memorable evening. All monies raised from this party will go towards the Restoration Appeal, and so, a huge thank you to both John and Anthea for their selfless efforts, and to all those who supported this delightful evening.
