Wadebridge and District Memory Day

Share your memories at Wadebridge and District Memory Day ‘Landmark Travels- Our Past in a Suitcase’,  a partnership project involving Storylines, the Institute of Cornish Studies and Cornwall Heritage Trust, will be linking up with Wadebridge and District Museum to host a Memory Day in Wadebridge. This will be held at both the Exchange (Molesworth Street), and Wadebridge and District Museum (Chapel Lane) on Monday 21st September from 1-5pm and is open to all.

This social event will include a display of archive photographs from Wadebridge and the surrounding area and will provide opportunities for people to share their own memories over tea/coffee and cake. Helen Rawe, a Trustee of the Museum, says “We welcome people to bring along any photographs they have of the area to share with others and add to the archives. It’s so important to gather and preserve memories and photographs so that this information isn't lost to future generations.

Wadebridge has a fascinating past, for example, does everyone realize that
Wadebridge had a railway service ahead of London?’
The stories, memories and information collected during this Memory Day will
become part of the wider project, ‘Landmark Travels’ which is working with schools and communities throughout Cornwall to unearth the stories, traditions and histories connected with landmarks and places. This 2-year project, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and Cornwall Heritage Trust, involves a range of memory-sharing workshops, study days, exhibitions and events. Further information on the project, and how to get involved, will be available at the Memory Day.

Any questions about the day please contact Helen Rawe on 01208 816206. To find out more about the project you can also visit www.storylines.org.uk/projects.

Men’s Breakfast

The Church was delighted that so many of the helpers at this year’s Fete accepted the invitation to a Men’s Breakfast at the St Mabyn Inn as a Thank you for all the hard work and support they gave both in the run up to and on The Day itself. As the Reverend Dave Elkington said, the Church being there means a great deal to residents, even if they don’t attend very often, but they like to know it is there!  The Fete raises the much needed funds to pay the enormous insurance premium, which ensures that it can stay open and the help of all those involved is much appreciated. Warm thanks also to Ivan and his team for their splendid hospitality.

St Mabyn Church Fete 2015 – the Best in the West!

This year's Fete was held on The Green at St Mabyn, on Saturday 20th June with St Mabyn Band of Bell Ringers ringing the Church Bells at 2.00pm and we were delighted to welcome this year the St Minver Silver Band, who entertained us throughout the afternoon. Our own special pupils from the School performed the ever popular May Pole Dancing, and there was also a Traditional Punch and Judy Show,  and our Grand Draw Raffle directly after the Children Races. The afternoon concluded with the Tug-o-War event, which, as usual finished with lots of the public also having a go!! Cream Teas were served under the Chestnut Tree, also an Ice Cream Van in the Green, with a Bar-b-Q provided by the St Mabyn Inn, in the Beer Garden, and Strawberries courtesy of the Friend's of St Mabyn Church Stall. There were lots of stalls from Preserves to Cakes, Tombola and Competitions to the Plants, with Bric-a-brac, Books and Toys and many thanks to all the many helpers without whom the whole event wouldn’t be possible.

Songs of Praise

On 30th August in place of our normal service in St. Mabyn Parish Church there will be a combined service at St Tudy at 10-30am at which all three congregations of the Benefice will be joining.  It will take the form of a Songs of Praise Service at which we will be singing hymns chosen by members of the three churches and also by any member of the village community who cares to suggest any hymn which has significant meaning or relevance to them. Please give your suggestions to Carol Grigg on 841276
