Coffee morning

The last village hall event raised £19 and the next coffee morning will be on Friday 25th April, 10.30-11.30am. Coffee, tea, biscuits and chat, £1 per head.
Everyone is welcome.

Spring Fair

The village hall spring fair held last Saturday was very successful raising just over £300.
This will almost cover the cost of the new fire extinguishers, which really needed to be replaced.
Thank you to all those who came along - even though it was a very wet day. Thank you too to the stallholders - we hope to see you again around Christmas time.
It is worth noting here, that our hall can be hired for various functions and not only by parishioners but by anybody who has a need to hold a function and requires kitchen facilities, too.

Contact the caretaker on 01208 841076.

The Coach House

Permission is being sought at Trelinden, Rectory Lane, St Mabyn for works to trees covered by a tree preservation order; reducing the height of two beech trees and removal of one beech tree for Mr and Mrs S. Flynn.

Church Restoration Appeal

This week sees the start of the long-awaited restoration of this beautiful old church. Ryearch, the approved contractors have started erecting the scaffolding. Services in the Church, including weddings and other celebrations will not be affected, including the Summer Music series of concerts, and the schoolchildren will also be able to continue with their regular use of the building. Fund-raising efforts will continue - until the final bills have been paid. Very many thanks to all those who have donated so far.

Rainbows

This is Guiding for girls aged 5-7 years and currently needs a leader to restart - there are lots of eager little girls! If you would like to help (and full Guider support is available) please contact Jill Jeffs on 01840 212497.

Easter Sunday

A large congregation gathered for the Easter Sunday service where the Reverend John Brendon-Cook first blessed the Easter Garden built round the Norman font. The Church looked delightful, fresh and sparkling following the great Spring Clean led by Sacristan Anthea Lobb and her team of helpers who also produced the lovely arrangements of spring flowers everywhere. At the end of the service Easter eggs, a symbol of new life, were blessed and distributed and coffee and biscuits served afterwards.

Garden Club

In February, the invited speaker was Colin Hawke, from Newquay, who gave an interesting talk on Cornwall's native trees.
They were informed about where and how to plant and given advice on staking trees. Pruning was an important topic too as well as diseases - apple trees were a popular topic.
In March Mr Tony Brown, who has a nursery in Looe, gave a talk and demonstration on how to line and fill hanging baskets and containers with a wonderful collection of plants which he had brought with him.
These were on sale at bargain prices after the event. Refreshments and a raffle completed the evening.

St Mabyn School

The mobile skate park on Thursday, March 27 was enjoyed by many, especially because it was a lovely sunny day.
At one given time there were 10 young people enjoying the facility laid on by the school and supported by the parish council.

Spring Fair

Saturday, April 19, 1.30pm to 4.30pm in the village hall. Arrangements are coming together for what is going to be a very enjoyable event. If you would like to contribute to the parish food stall or plant stall please do so by bringing along your contribution by noon on April 19. Contact Helen on 01208 841342.
