Howard Guy Hoskin 1924 - 2009

St Mabyn today said a fond farewell to Howard Guy Hoskin, known to most as "Bomber" or "Bunty". The service was conducted by Reverend Margaret Millson.
Wadebridge Male Voice Choir sang wonderful versions of Deep Harmony and The White Rose.
Bomber was born at Ivy Cottage and lived his whole life in the village.
The church was packed with friends, relations and neighbours and the sun made an appearance too!

The Mutton Family

The Mutton family, of Burlerrow Farm St Mabyn, has been growing Miscanthus for six years - starting as a supplier of rhizomes for other growers and then using the crop as a renewable energy source to heat office units on their farm.
More recently they have been trialling the use of Miscanthus (elephant grass) for use as animal bedding. Now the family plans to start up its own process plant so it can produce livestock bedding from its own crops and from other local growers.
The project will include building a new barn and installing equipment for processing the Miscanthus and the RDPE grant will provide about 40 per cent of the cost.
We expect to be processing our own Miscanthus crops later this year with the bedding available from the summer, ” said James Mutton. “By 2012, we expect to be producing well over 1,000 tons of Miscanthus.

St Mabyn Pre-School

Pre-School launches baby and toddler group and invites potential parents to an Open Session
St Mabyn Pre-School is proud to announce that it has now launched a permanent baby and toddler group on Tuesdays in the Village Hall from 9.10am-11.10am. The session costs £2.50 for the first baby or toddler, and then £1 for additional children. It includes a snack for the children, and a much-needed tea or coffee for the mums. We found that including the toddlers in one of the pre-school sessions was great for the little ones and the older children love having them there.
The pre-school is also holding an open session on Wednesday, February 25 to which parents in the area are invited. Come meet our staff and committee, see what we're all about, and enjoy some home-baked goodies. If you have any questions about this or anything else, call Ange or Mel on 07929 092 088.
Help us get the word out! Do you know anyone with small children in our area? Please alert them to this. Also please check out our new website www.stmabynpreschool.co.uk
