ST MABYN GARDEN CLUB
St Mabyn Garden Club Annual General Meeting was held 11 April at St Mabyn Village Hall. Chairman John Lobb welcomed members and a minute silence was requested in respect for a much loved member George Dyke who sadly passed away in March.
The Chairman then presented his annual report, thanking all committee members for their hard work during the previous year. Hope to attract more members this coming year and it was proposed to contact new residents and inform them of the Garden Club. Venning Davey, President, also thanked the outgoing Committee for their support and work for the Club. Special thanks to John Lobb, Chairman for his many years of serivice to the Garden Club. Treasurer Anne Cauldwell said it had been a good year but costs are going up. The monthly raffle, organised by June Yates and the subscriptions pay for our speakers. Our stall at the Mistletoe Fair did very well and the monthly sale of plants helps our funds. Members were requested to bring more plants to sell at the monthly meetings.
Election of Officers: John Lobb was unanimously voted in as Chairman, as were Venning Davey President; Fiona Murphy Vice-President; Ann Cauldwell Treasurer; and Angela Bunney Secretary. Committee members June Yates; Colin Hyde and Liz Hayman.
Sue Dibble from St Tudy, then gave members a very interesting talk on Digital Photography of Plants, illustrated with stunning pictures of beautiful flowers. Sue told us her love of close up photography of plants. Her pictures proved this by showing such amazing detail of colour and formation of petals. The camellias and roses were outstanding. Chairman John Lobb then thanked Sue for her lovely photographs and refreshments were served by Anne McDermott and Agnes Hoskin.
Our next meeting is Wednesday 9 May 7.30pm St Mabyn Village Hall; speaker Sarah Daniels on Summer Flowers. Thursday 10 May is our Spring Trip to Godolphin House, nr Helston. If you would like to join us on a very pleasant day out, please contact Angela Bunney 01208 841511 for the Godolphin trip, membership and other information regarding St Mabyn Garden Club.

Fresh Expression at St Mabyn Church
During Lent there was a very successful and popular 5 week York course ‘Handing on the Torch’
This gave a wide range of people the opportunity to share their faith and doubts as they addressed current provocative issues.
Palm Sunday saw the first ‘Fresh Expression’ service- planned and delivered by 12 villagers- under the guidance of David Elkington.
This attracted 34 people to Church including 4 children ! The aim was to make this service fresh and exciting using language that everyone would understand- while retaining key elements of worship & praise; saying sorry to God and affirming our trust and belief in Him; recent translations of the Bible ; quiet reflective prayer. modern music as ‘Angie’s angels’ sang ‘You laid aside your majesty, gave everything up for me’
Interactive Gospel led by Gillian -supported by her two children Challenging words from Dave Elkington on the courage of Jesus and how we see Him today.
Joyful hymn singing The first Sunday of each month with Rev Dave Elkington will continue to follow this new approach – starting at 10 am and the villagers are now planning a lively service to celebrate The Jubilee at the beginning of June.
The 2nd Sunday will be taken by Jonathan Mosedale @ 9.30 while the 3rd will be a joint service at St Tudy@11 am with Rev David Pollard and Rev Andrew Lewis
Anyone requiring transport phone 841546
Rev Dave Elkington will return to St Mabyn on the 4th Sunday @ 9.30

ST MABYN PLAYERS ‘BINGO NIGHT OUT!’
The St Mabyn Players are planning a special ‘Bingo Night Out’ with cash prizes on Friday 27th April at 7pm in St Mabyn Village Hall. Tickets are £4 and will include nibbles and a dessert plus tea/coffee. Prize money will generate from the sale of bingo cards, and everyone is welcome to bring their own alcohol. The Players’ Bingo Night Out promises to be ‘different’ and a whole lot of fun.
As this event is attracting a great deal of support and is expected to be yet another Players’ sell-out, early booking is recommended. As usual, tables for eight may be booked in advance.
Proceeds from the evening will help purchase necessary technical equipment for the Players’ next production which will run for four nights on 12-15th December.
Enquiries and tickets – Audrey 01208 841607
