I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change

First dates, marriage, babies, and love in the twilight years; our lives revolve around our relationships.
With songs like “I’ll call you soon (yeah, right)” and “Single Man Drought” this is a musical for those with a healthy dose of cynicism. With a skilled cast put together by Horn and Hare Theatre Company this piece looks into relationships, revealing all the things we know are true but don’t care to admit. At times touching, always honest “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change” takes you through a series of vignettes examining the good the bad and the downright funny.
Horn and Hare Theatre Company are a new professional Cornish company started by Ellen Waghorn, Tom Hare and Jenifer Hare (née Titcomb)
Listen to them on radio Cornwall (starts at 14.49)

ST MABYN BOOKSWAP

Don't forget to come to St Mabyn Post Office and Stores for our Spring Bookswop on Saturday 26 May 10 am to 12 noon. Have a cup of coffee in the Coffee Lounge and enjoy a few restful minutes browsing through the books.  See you there.

ST MABYN GARDEN CLUB

Due to family illness, unfortunately our May speaker was unable to come and give her talk of Summer Flowers to St Mabyn Garden Club.  But, never fear, our intrepid chairman John Lobb gave  members a fun and interesting evening of Quiz questions.  Thank you John for such an enjoyable evening.

Our Spring Trip took members to the National Trust property Godolphin House near Helston.  Unfortunately the weather was not kind to us as the rain came down!  But members found the tour of Godolphin House very interesting as it was built between the 15th and 17th centuries. Also some strange alterations done during the19th and 20th centuries with wooden panels walls to divide up larger rooms.  Also I lost count how many bathrooms there were.  Members braved the weather to explore the gardens, which unfortunately could not be fully appreciated due to the weather.
On our way home we stopped at the Garden Centre at Breage  for a welcome cup of tea and coffee, not to mention the amazing portions of homemade cakes.
In September we are visiting Rosemoor Gardens, North Devon. If you would like to join us, please contact Angela Bunney 01208 841511.  Have a sunny and happy summer, see you in the autumn.

Applause for Rev Dave’s sermon at St Mabyn

On the first Sunday of each month at there is a new style ‘Fresh Expression’ service at 10 am.Modern words are used throughout to improve understanding. The first service on Palm Sunday was a great success and attracted 34 people.
The second service on May 6th was taken by Rev Dave Elkington , assisted by Peter Coster included readings by Monty Fryer, prayers for our village led by Joanne Hyde and great singing by all.
Rev. Dave gave a very amusing but challenging talk based on the Lord’s prayer in which he stressed how important it is for us to spend time listening whenever we pray. This was given a well deserved round of applause by the large appreciative congregation. Why don’t you come and enjoy the next Fresh Expression service at St Mabyn on 3rd June @ 10 am which will celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee?

THE ST MABYN PLAYERS

More than 80 people enjoyed a very successful fun-filled `Bingo Night Out’ on 27 th April in St Mabyn Village Hall. The event was organised by the St Mabyn Players, who are presently  raising funds to cover the cost of their new lighting and sound equipment. The evening opened with Tony Dickinson, the Player’s Producer and Director, performing a song and dance routine with the Bingo Babes, Angela Bunney and Anne Edwards. This was followed by a fun-packed evening, with the numbers being called by Tony in his own inimitable style. The cash prizes were very well received by the lucky winners and everyone enjoyed a scrumptious dessert, followed by tea or coffee in the interval. The happy winner of the Flyer went home with a bumper prize of £50, and 30 other cash prizes were won during the evening. Many thanks to Alex Fielding for organising the catering and to Chris Dickinson for her delicious desserts. David Masters, Colin Hyde and Guy Brindle kept the front of house running smoothly and Audrey Cooke created some`unusual’ effects with the new audio and lighting mixers! Once again, very many thank to sound and lighting engineer, David Hudson, for all his support, time and hard work during the installation of the technical equipment.

A second `Bingo Night Ou’t is planned for the autumn, which will be followed by another Comedy Musical Extravaganza in December, which will run for four nights this year on 12-15 th December.
The cost of tickets will remain at £7.50 which will include a delicious pasty supper, followed by a dessert and tea and coffee. Enquiries and advance bookings, please contact Audrey on 01208841607
